Anyone know any holistic doctors in Michigan?

I'm looking for a holistic practitioner in Oakland County, Michigan that takes insurance (BCBS.) I have seen some specialists (Ayurveda) and they don't take insurance - I need someone that will provide alternative, homeopathic remedies, who also has the expertise of Western medicine and that takes insurance.

  1. The best way to find a practitioner in your area who takes insurance is to find someone with an existing medical license (MD, FNP) who subsequently trained as a classical homeopath. Bear in mind, if you are looking for a homeopath, holistic is not the same as homeopathy. Homeopathy is a separate, comprehensive field, parallel to acupuncture and chiropractic in terms of representing a complete healing modality.

If you choose a conventional practitioner (for insurance purposes) who offers homeopathy, be careful. Many practitioners with adjunctive training say they offer homeopathy, yet their skills are actually limited to the knowledge available to consumers.

If you're going to go to the trouble to find someone who does both - especially because you'll probably be driving some distance - you'll want them to be certified through the Council for Homeopathic Certification, the only certifying organization in N. America that spans all professions (http://www.homeopathicdirectory.com). If not certified through CHC (the credentials after their name would be "CHC"), ask why. Check into qualifications, homeopathic education, % of practice that is homeopathic (100% is needed for good results), experience, etc.

The National Center for Homeopathy (http://www.naturalcenterforhomeopathy.or... also has a directory of practitioners, who may or may not be certified.

The North American Society of Homeopaths (http://homeopathy.org/) also has a directory. This is a member organization, however, so again, ask about qualifications and training.

The Homeopathic Academy of Naturopathic Physicians (http://www.google.com/search?q=homeopath...  lists NDS. Some NDs are trained in homeopathy. Just be sure they have the certification, and/or a 100% homeopathic practice. (NDs have the option of choosing homeopathy among their electives, but that doesn't guarantee the skill level desired.)

These are the top 4 resources to find someone who is competent to practice homeopathy, with experience in both fields.

To get a sense of how a Medical Doctor who practices homeopathy sounds, and his perspective, Bill Gray, M.D. is a classical homeopath and author who is respected and esteemed worldwide. We shared clients at the point we happened to live in the same city. Dr. Gray's website is at http://www.billgrayhomeopathy.com/.

    Best wishes.

ADD: I just checked out Dr. Levine's website. I work with a Medical Doctor in my own city with similar qualifications and more experience. Still, our MD relies on a panel of 15 local holistic health practitioners with expertise in the separate fields for advice (homeopathy, massage, acupuncture, herbology, etc.), as each healing modality is so comprehensive.

In my opinion, Dr. Levine is a "next best" doctor given the limitations of conventional medicine (calling himself a healer is assumptive and a marketing ploy), yet you will not come close to receiving the deep benefits from someone extensively trained  in acupuncture (TCM) or homeopathy. That doesn't mean - depending on your health condition - that Dr. Levine cannot help you. Just don't rule out "holistic" or acupuncture, if you do not get well (he doesn't offer homeopathy).

  2. Try Michigan wellness Associates - Center for Holistic Medicine

  3. Try this doctor.  He is both a medical and holistic doctor.  Very, very knowledgeable. He's in Birmingham, MI.  If his treatment is deemed medical then he can bill BCBS.  If it is holistic then you will have to pay out of pocket.
