Im just wondering because ive looked on youtube for a bit, but id like someones input on this, i was looking for any good velvet underground songs, by others opinions, not by youtube. and i was wondering if anyone knows any other good oldschool punk bands, such as The Exploited, The Adicts, Crass, Dead Kennedys, Subhumans, Rancid(new school)? it doesnt even really have to be oldschool as long as it has actual punk roots and isnt shite like greenday or avril lavigne (sad, kids consider them punk these days)

any help would be gladly appreciated and sorry im a bit drunk so if theres any clarifying i need to do ill clarify.

  1. The Ramones invented punk.

Velvet Underground: Who Loves the Sun, Crimson and Clover, Stephanie Says

  2. A little known pioneer punk band worth looking at is the band Television.  They had an album called Marquee Moon in 1977 which is considered a classic.  Rolling Stone ranked the album #128 in it's list of the greatest 500 albums ever.

Also for the Velvet Underground, "Sunday Morning" is considered their best song and one of my all-time favorites.  The entire Velvet Underground & Nico album is worth looking at.

  3. Pale Blue Eyes, Heroin, I'm Beginning To See The Light, Who Loves The Sun, I'm Sticking With You.

In my opinion, those are some excellent songs by The Velevt Underground.

Some other old school punk bands are The Clash, The Distillers, Bad Religion, Iggy Pop & The Stooges, Ramones, and The s*x Pistols.

  5. i'm trying so hard to think of the names of a few old punk bands, because i did a subject on punk subcultures at uni, but yeh, just a few i can think of is obviously the Ramones, and also The Saints. and of course the s*x Pistols, by the way these guys didn't sell out to the industry, they did a very punk thing and the day they got signed, they destroyed the offices where they were meant to be discussing their new single, as well as having a punch up in the limo on the way to the offices (that's beside the point though, its the music they make i love) Dead Kennedys are awesome.  um some new school kindof thing like that would be INXS, NOFX (these are depending on your taste, not really mine) annnnd... i can't think of the name but i like them... haha.. i'll try to come back to it.

and if you're totally lost, look up "52 Flicks" on myspace of youtube.  they're friends of mine, and they may sound a little c**p at first, but they're gettin better and better as the year goes on.

oh i am in love with ska punk at the moment, so if ur interested, Less Than Jake and Reel Big Fish.

I'll try to come back to you with some good bands, this is just a start.

    haha

  6. The Circle Jerks!

Also, i'd like to put in my two cents regarding mainstream bands- ESPECIALLY greenday, who i totally love.  I consider them a 'gateway' band.  Things are different now with the internet making information all the more accessable.  But back in 1994, as a kid from suburbia, Greenday introduced me to a genre of music that i could finally relate to.  If it weren't for bands like that "selling out" a lotta kids, whether they wanna admit it or not, wouldn't even know what punk rock is.
