  1. Sauvignon Blanc is a good all round dry bet, good affordable buys seem to be from Chile and South Africa ....

If you want "bone dry" then go for a decent French Chablis (though I can't think what food you would drink it with other than shellfish).

Meursault of decent vintage is a good bit less dry choice.

Pinot Gris / Grigio is dryish but spicy ... goes well with highly flavoured food and pastas.  Bit sweeter but of the same ilk is Gewertstraminer.

Less dry .... "soft" Semillon, "tangy" Chenin, but like Chardonnay and Viognier I rate these as sweet as far as drys go, but both Semillon and Chenin work better with food than Chardonnay.

Interesting semi-dry flowery / spicy choices are Torrontes (Argentina) and Dry Muscat, with either oriental food or as aperitif ...

Wine is an adventure and you need to experiment to learn your grape characteristics and what you really like for a given ocassion or food match .... its sooo personal !

  2. Hannah Sauv Blanc from Alexander Valley, Sonoma, CA.

    I never drink French junk.

  3. Vinho Verde-  means green wine.  Comes from Portugal.

Great crisp dry white wine.  Can find it at  BevMo or any large retailer of alcohol.

  4. you can't go wrong with a good Chardonnay. Just pick a label that comes from France or Nappa.

  5. There are all sorts of good dry white wines in every category, pouilly fuissé included. Your best bet is to go to a wine store, tell the clerk roughly how much you want to spend, and let him or her recommend something.

You will find that your taste will develop and you will find your own favorites.

  6. Just about any Sauv Blanc will fit the "dry" bill.

Kim Crawford is consistant and always well rated.

The Maryhill SauvBlanc is quite tasty.

Husch also makes a fine one.

There is also a grape called Roussane that is fairly dry.  Different than a Sauv Blanc, but interesting.

Note:  Chardonnay is not typically what one thinks of as dry.

  7. Absum somontano , chardonay, Rueda

  8. asti martini &rossi is a good sparkling wine
