I know that there are books that have a list of publishers and/or magazines that accept poetry. Does anyone know the name of any recognized ones? Thanks in advance.

  1. The Poet's Market 2008 or 2009 if it's out would be a good source for you.

  2. These catalogs are from a different era. Most publications do not read unsolicited material anymore. The market for amateur poetry dried up 25 years ago. Your best bet is to be included in a popular collection.

  3. My 'bible' for publications is The International Directory of Little Magazines and Small Presses.

Web on "Dustbooks" and this site will give you lists of books Len Fulton publishes for writers like us. The Directory is about 1000+ pages long...but includes all types of presses.

Also, poetrykit.org, lists publishers in countries around the world...excellently helpful!!!!

  4. An annual publication, Poet's Market, is probably the best reference.  However, it is very difficult, if not impossible for a newcomer to be published.  It doesn't hurt to read the book and try, though.

  5. "Poet's Market," which others have recommended, is one good source of information.  For a list of online literary journals, take a look at this site:

Different magazines publish different kinds of poetry, so be sure to read any journal before submitting your poems.
