Mendel showed that the inheritance of traits follows particular laws, which were later named after him. The significance of Mendel's work was not recognized until the turn of the 20th century. Its rediscovery prompted the foundation of the discipline of genetics.

                          Gregor mendel used to study peas(pisum sativum) in his monastry. He studied their characteristics in order to find about genetics.

I KNOW MENDEL!

He was a guy from heaps long ago. A monk... and all he could do at the church/temple or whatever was nothing much so he decided to plant heaps of peas and fertilise the seeds with different species of peas. He was the guy who formed the punnet squares:

And he discovered a pattern in genetics. After a while, he became head monk or something so he didn't have enough time to research peas anymore. All his research was recorded in books but after he died the monks burnt them (stupid!). So things that we don't know about today may have been known already years ago (in his books).

Gregor Mendel a.k.a father of genetic was a priest at the Augustian Monestery. Then in 1851 he was sent to the University of Viena for training as a teacher of mathematics and natural sciences.
