Question:

Anyone know anything about Trains in Sweden?

Trying to find out about how long it takes to go from Jonkoping to Stockholm on the x2000 or any other train that goes direct between the two cities. Also, can you get a single round trip or do you need to buy the 3 day or 5 day - one country pass, if you're only taking that one trip?

  1. There are no direct trains between Jönköping and Stockholm (go to http://www.sj.se/sj/jsp/polopoly.jsp?d=1... , select From: Jönköping To: Stockholm C - at the top of the menu; then select dates). You almost always change train at Nässjö. Lot of people who take the train from Jönköping will probably change to Stockholm in Nässjö, so there will be lots of people to ask for help, or just follow the crowd and check for correct destination at the electronic timetables on the platform. Announcements on the train loudspeaker are also in both Swedish and English, most of the time, informing you about the right platform to go to in Nässjö. And you could of course also ask the train conductor when you have boarded the train in Jönköping. It takes between 3,5 to 4,5 hours to go to Stockholm from Jönköping. You can always buy a single round trip.

If you don't want to change train, you can take the bus from Jönköping to Stockholm. Go to http://www.swebusexpress.se/ , select "English" in the left menu, and select Jönköping and Stockholm and date. It takes a little longer than train (usually 4-4,5 hours) and is generally cheaper. All bus trips are direct. The bus terminal (Cityterminalen) in Stockholm is situated next to the railway station in Stockholm (Centralstationen).
