ok so I got into an accident almost three years ago that the people are JUST NOW suing me for and saying they were hurt, when I was the one who got T boned by them!! anyway, I have allstate, but my insurance will be $200 a month if I keep them, but I'm afraid to switch bc I feel like they won't defend me as well in the lawsuit if they aren't my insurance carrier anymore. Should I try to switch or not? I feel like $200 a month is pretty high!

  1. sounds familiar...they waited just until the limitation to file to do this, which is 3 yrs in most states.  Allstate will still take care of this for you as you were insured with them at the time of the accident.  I wouldn't worry too much and let them handle this.

  2. switch if you want to. let your insurance company handle the lawsuit

  3. Shouldn't make any difference if you switch now as long as you were covered by Allstate when the accident occurred, they will defend you.  How do you know if $200.00 is high ?  have you compared premiums from other companies ?

  4. Are you being approached by an attorney for this other party.  Normal statute for presenting a bodily injury claim is 2 years unless they've retained an attorney and filed with the court to extend it.

Contact the insurance carrier that covered you at the time, they should be able to handle the situation for you.  Doesn't matter if you switch now/later, they were your insurance company at the time of the accident.
