Anyone know anything about sailing?

Question

I'm looking to take up sailing as a hobby, get a boat (with an engine!) and take to the high seas...but I don't know anything about it - anyone have any pointers or any scources of information so i can learn all i can before i go and kill myself on some big rocks?

You know son I admire you I really do hope that you go for it. I'm sorry I can't give you much help other than the fact that you should make the best of it, and enjoy every singly moment.

When I was in Suez, Egypt (During the Suez crisis) we were departed on landing ships and the feeling of being at sea was quite a thrill for me, I loved how we bobbed up and down but I'm just an old man now, you take good care of yourself and enjoy it.
