I want to take this girl out to get sushi, but i want to be well informed about it (things like the different types, the stronger sushi, whats good to try on a first time, ect.)

I've had sushi before and i know a little bit, but its been a while and i've only been a few times, so any information you have on it is good.

  1. yea, it's raw fish..... ewwww. tried a california roll once. i prefer my fish grilled poached or filleted.

  2. I would not eat raw fish! You can get things from it! If is has to be sushi, get the kind that is cooked. Ask your date, if she wants to eat sushi, first of all. She may not like it.

  3. I worked in a Fine Dining Sushi Restaurant for over 2 years. May I suggest for a newbie: a spicy tuna roll, califonia roll, and a boston roll. These are excellent maki rolls that allow an individual to experience in 1. raw fish, 2. crab (real or fake) and vegetables, and just vegetables. Enjoy and try it with some warm sake if you're legal. Also, worth trying is Saporro beer. It is from Japan, and quite tasty.

  4. Tuna is my favorite. But; like the others already said it, rolls are easy for a beginner, like the california roll with imitaton crab and avocado. Only sushi I don't like is the eel, too fishy!

  5. Any sushi is good (in my opnion).

If you aren't into spicy stuff, don't order any spicy tuna rolls or anything that is described as spicy (it can get pretty hot)

Also, don't use too much wasabi in your soy sauce. It will make your eyes water.

Salmon, unagi, and tuna are usually the most commonly eaten ones.

If you go to a place with a revolving belt on which the sushi is placed, expect to pay around $2-5 per plate (usually 2-3 pieces of sushi per plate).

  6. I would not eat raw meat of any kind , how gross. You can get food poisoning from it. It will make you sick. Let her stick with something that is cooked first, however you can eat something raw if you prefer. If it seems interesting to her, offer her a little bite, and if she likes it , well she can order that the next time.

  7. just order rolls not sashimi, you will like the Rainbow roll, crunch roll, and maybe some sort of hot roll, just no eel

  8. For one thing, it's expensive. Expect to pay good money for good sushi. The best stuff is fairly fresh too. You may want to make sure that she's into the idea of raw fish too. Lots of sushi uses avocado too, which has an odd texture and isn't much on taste in my personal opinion.

For a first timer, I would suggest a rolled sushi since it's a lot easier to look at and deny the fact that you are eating raw fish. Some places have chicken tempura rolls, which uses fried chicken rather than fish and it has a sweet sauce on it. Eel is also really good for a first timer; it has a lot of flavor and a nice texture too. If you feel adventurous go for a sampler plate, it's a good way to find out what you do and don't like.

    Good luck and have fun!

PS: Don't be afraid to ask about any of the sushi on the menu if you aren't sure about it.
