  1. the newer the better

get the S for more fun

    ▪ Convertible S 4-cyl MT

    ConsumerReports.Overview

Highs: Acceleration, agility, fun to drive, fuel economy, reliability.

Lows: Confusing controls, rear-seat room and access, torque steer, ride, small trunk.

The Mini has very agile handling, with quick, precise steering and little body lean, making it truly fun to drive. It was redesigned for 2007, but the audio and climate system controls were made more confusing. The ride is still a bit choppy, but less so in the redesign. The base engine has adequate response and the turbocharged one in the Cooper S is very punchy and has a satisfying exhaust note. The rear seat is very tight. The simple-to-use convertible top incorporates a partial-open sunroof position. Reliability of the hatchback is well above average. The Clubman is a longer version of the Mini Cooper, with a larger backseat and more cargo space. A small rear-hinged door on the right side helps rear access. It also gets commendable fuel economy, ranging from 29 to 33 mpg depending on the version.

  2. Well depends. Are you paying for it yourself? Are your parents paying? Do you even care what it costs?

A mini cooper is great car and easy to drive but like lots of other people say sometimes its good to learn to drive a big car so you get the feel of a big car before you drive a small car.

A mini cooper gets great fuel economy in the city and on the highway. Mini recommends that you put premium in the car though but i would be willing to try regular in the car until it started to ping and then i would go back to putting premium in it.

A mini is somewhat reliable. As long as you get one newer than 2004 you should be ok. Of course they are not as reliable as honda or toyota but they are not terrible.

I dont know about crash tests but i have heard that they have good test ratings.

check out edmunds(link above) and go into used cars and research the mini and it should tell you everything you want to know plus more.
