  1. comes from Béal Feirste (/ˌb´eˑL ˈfers´t´ə/; "mouth of the Farset (a river)")

  2. And the Irish word 'fearsad' from which 'feirste' derives, means a 'cut' or a 'channel'.

You won't find THAT in wikipaedia!

  3. The name Belfast originates from the Irish Béal Feirste, or 'mouth of the Farset' ,the river on which the city was built, the Farset now languishes under the High Street in obscurity

  4. I was told it was named after a type of sink, LOL
