We're in FL and the tax appraiser's office says the Owner is in CA.

We have asked 3 or 4 times in writing and they refuse to give us the current address/phone/fax number of the owner of this home.

It is not in the lease and we didn't notice that until we took the lease apart - we thought the address to send payments to was the owner's but it's not it's another office of the Real Estate Agency. Arrrrggg!

Should we just mail info to the last known address for them?

  1. The Town Clerk's office where it is located will have this info.  Sometimes, the Clerk's office has this info online.

  2. The reason that the management company is refusing to divulge the owner's name and address is because that is the way the OWNER wants it.  That's why he uses a management firm.  He does not want to deal directly with tenants, and expects that all dealings with you be handled by the management firm.  If there is something of sufficient importance that the owner be involved, the management firm will notify the owner and the issues will be worked out between management and the owner.

  3. Acermill is right. But if you really must have the owner's information, you can check the online geographical information system GIS in your country. It will contain all the tax information for the property, including the owner data.

  4. YOU MAIL THE PAYMENT TO THE ADDRESS ON THE LEASE.

The guy in California hired a management company to handle everything, track payments, etc.

You are risking eviction if you do not PAY according to how the LEASE states you have to.

That is because the property management company takes their fee out of the rental payment and the balance goes to the owner.

You have NO REASON to get the owner's address...that is another reason why he got a management company.

You can be charged late fees, even if you pay on time, if you don't pay WHO the lease says you must pay.

Never pay in cash, always pay by check.
