  1. You could apply to be a volunteer with a group involving contact with children - like the footy club or cricket club. All volunteers must agree to a full police records check.

Of course it would be morally right to then go ahead and actually do some of the work for them because they will have paid the fee and they are after all a non-profit organisation :)

  2. Ahhh! I need to know this too!

  3. The only way I know of is to get an employer to pay for the check for you.  I have had problems with the check myself though.  I can not get employment because of prior convictions.  Surely there should be a time frame in which past deeds can be forgiven.

  4. In Australia, checks are not free... there is always a fee involved through the relevant police force. Also earlier answers about getting an "employer" or "working with children" check actually means YOU personally don't get to see the results.

Even these "employer checks" due to privacy laws are very limited in what information the police can provide. It's a simple YES or NO response in relation to standard questions. Generally speaking, there is NO WAY Police will release all the criminal history file they have on you for any reason and it's often except from "freedom of information" laws as well.

  5. Man, I needed one for my clinical placement as a part of my uni activities. You know how much I paid for just that piece of paper? A$35!! Ridiculous, huh?

  6. Through your employment agencies, volunteer groups or employers!!!!!

  7. All Police checks in Australia, regardless of whether you're working, or for a volunteer agency, reuqire ou o pay a fee. Some volunteer agencies get discounts, but none are free.
