  1. I am involved in construction and the best way is to become a licensed architect or general contractor and then take extra courses specializing in this area.  Many contractors and architects are getting LEED accredited (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) through the U.S. Green Building Council.  Many colleges offer courses toward this accrediatation.  There are other programs as well, but this one is the most recognized.

  2. Do some research on Rammed Earth Houses, Earthships, or Straw Bale Construction.

Before if anyone wanted to contstruct one of the above houses, they had to build it themselves.  Now there are actually firms which specialize in construction of these ultra earth friendly homes.

There was a group of Hispanic men around here, who were hired as day labor to put up a straw bale wall/fence.  With the knowledge they gained there, they launched their own straw bale construction company.

Do some research, and figure out what kind of construction you are most interested in.  Keep setting goals, and gaining knowledge....you will get to do what you want if you actively seek it out.
