I was diagnosed with Pink eye earlier this morning, and the discharge coming from my eye is extremly annoying because I have to wipe it with a wet cloth every half hour.

Anyone know how to either reduce the discharge or even temporarily stop it?

  1. I should just have a canned answer ready for this, but here goes:

    1) Pink eye is almost always viral.

    2) Antibiotics are used against bacteria

    3) Therefore, antibiotics do NOTHING for pink eye.

The fact that PCPs and nurses continue to prescribe antibiotics for pink eye only further proves they have no business treating the eye.

  2. yes, using the prescribed antibiotic drops is the only thing that will help it.  Make sure you are not using the same wet cloth to wipe the eye every half hour.  I had a friend who did that and her active infection lasted 1 month because she kept re-infecting the eye with same wash cloth!

  3. You need an anti-inflammatory drop prescribed by a physician. It will stop the cause for the discharge. It will get better on its own without medicine but it will take about 5 days.
