So, I'm already in Horse 4-H, and I want to join Dog, and Rabbit, and next year, I want to do Steer, and Lamb.

But I need to know how to show, a Dog, and a bunny this year, and here are some of the questions I have

*Will my rabbit be knocked down points for being Cross Bred?

*Does my bunny have to be a certain breed?

*Certain age?

*Does it matter whether it's a lop, or not?

*What classes are there?

*How do I show

*Is there a certain Time period, that the rabbit needs to be bought?

*Have to be from a breeder?

I also have questions about Dog too, but lets start with bunnies!

*NOTE

If you by any chance live in Colorado and have a bunny for sale, EMAIL ME!

  1. *No, not in showmanship and i think there is a class for

      mixxed breed rabbits.

*It doesn't have to if its JUST a 4H rabbit, if you want to show

it at a bigger show yes it does.

*No, they have different secetions for different ages.

    *No i have dwarfs

    *Breed,Showmanship,Fur, Meat.

*Search www.arba.com or search rabbit showmanship they

give you a step by step idea.

*Its better to get a rabbit around 8 weeks old.

*Its better to get it from a breeder and study on the breed so

you dont get a unshowable rabbit.

Dogs are easy classes here are showmanship,agility,rally-o,obedince, team and brace. Ive showed for around six years now. If you get in a 4H club they help you very well and teach you everything you need to know. :D

  2. I show rabbits in Texas, so it might be a bit different.

1.the show rabbits are only certain breeds, you can just go to your local pet store and buy a bunny. There is NO cross breeding. Here we show only California's, but if might be different in your area.

    * yes your rabbit has to be no more then  a certain number of days, if they are over you cant show, and to young the same.

*Ask your local 4-h rabbit leader what kind of rabbits they show in your area.

*there is showman ship, breeders(older rabbits), meat, and other classes, its very confusing.

*You have to be able to pick your rabbit upside down, and know what your talking about when they ask you question.

    * the rabbit should be bought at a certain age, get with your local breeder

    * YES, that's the hole point of showing rabbis, how good of a rabbit are they, do they show the breed standard, sure go out and buy a rabbit for pet-co but don't think your gonna win.

***You have to buy at least 4 rabbits, but try for 6. There is a classes  were the rabbits are judged on how close in weight ( rabbits cant be over 5 pounds or your out) and how unified there body condition is. Ger with your local 4-h group they tell you every thing you need to know, threes so many tricks and thing you must know to show. From feeding, to how to handle the rabbits. Good Luck!!

  3. *Will my rabbit be knocked down points for being Cross Bred?

-- In my state, cross bred rabbits are not permitted to show. This is because you are able to pick what attributes.

This is also because you must declare a breed in order for it to be fair when showing against the same breed.

*Does my bunny have to be a certain breed?

No! All breeds of rabbits are accepted into 4-H (at least here.)

    *Certain age?

Rabbits must be a certain age. I'm not sure what that is again, but you can show a rabbit for as long as they meet breed standards.

I've had some rabbits that this lasts for a few months...to some that last up to six years.

*Does it matter whether it's a lop, or not?

A lop? As in you mean the breed? No, it shouldn't. If it is part of the breed standards it is fine. Get books on your breed, it will tell you what is okay for your breed.

    *What classes are there?

Classes? As in forms of competition? If you are talking about that there is Fit and Show, Knowledge Bowl, and various other things. There are also sometimes costume contests.

    *How do I show

In Fit and Show you are lined up with a bunch of other people with their rabbits. The judge will ask each of you questions and you must answer them to the best of your knowledge. If you do not know the answer always say: 'I'm sorry, I don't know the answer but I will attempt to find it.'

IT shows that you are serious about finding the answer.

Conformation is when you place your rabbit in a cage and a judge comes around and looks over your rabbit.

You basically stand on the other side of the table and watch, waiting to pick up your rabbit after he is finished.

*Is there a certain Time period, that the rabbit needs to be bought?

No, you can buy your rabbit at any time.

*Have to be from a breeder?

Yes, you have to prove documentation that this rabbit is pure-bred. Also if you want to register them with your state as a show rabbit.

It is also good if you plan to breed or sell.

-- Please note this information is what I learned. Always check with your clubs in the area.--

  4. Will my rabbit be knocked down points for being Cross Bred?

Yes, cross-bred rabbits can't really be judges on a breed standard because they are mixed. In 4-H shows you can show them, but honestly I doubt it will do much. ARBA shows they arn't even allowed.

*Does my bunny have to be a certain breed?

No, there are many breeds of rabbits. Each breed has its own standard. They pick out a BOB(best of breed) in each breed, then at the end of the show once all best of breeds have been chosen, each breed goes up against each other for BIS.

    *Certain age?

They are classified either as juniors or rabbits less than 6 months of age. Intermdiates(they do not have this class for all breeds) are rabbits used in breeds having 6 showroom classes, and the rabbit is between 6-8 months of age and meets the minimum weight for that breed. Seniors are rabbits 6 months of age or over.

*Does it matter whether it's a lop, or not?

No, again this depends on what breed you have.

    *What classes are there?

They are grouped according to breed, color, s*x, and age.

    *How do I show

First you have to register for the show. This depends on the show on how you do it. Some you can either call in, e-mail or mail in. After you register, when you get to the show, check in your rabbits and make sure your rabbits are in the correct classes. Then wait until your breed is up for judging and wait for your class to be called, then when they are called, put the rabbit in the cage where the show attendent tells you to put and step back. Once all the rabbits for that class is up, judging will begin. Make sure you are on time for your class!

*Is there a certain Time period, that the rabbit needs to be bought?

No..its just the age will be part of determining what age group the rabbit goes in.

*Have to be from a breeder?

You don't have to, but is a good idea if you want to start out with some good starter rabbits.

sorry for any spelling errors, spell check is not working right now for me.

  5. The rules vary from state to state and county to county. I would start by talking to your county extension office. Have them put you in touch with someone who shows rabbits and can answer your questions.

As for dogs, I just ran the local 4H dog show for my county in Iowa, but I don't know how your county does it. Same advice: contact your extension office and have them put you in touch with people in the know in your county.
