Anyone know how to solve: 8y^(2n+4) +16 y^(2n+3) -12y^(2n) And the steps to do so?

The numbers/Variables in () are the exponents.

Supposed to use Greatest Common Factor.

  1. well i can't really solve it if the expression equals nothing but this is how i simplified it:

    1) 4(2y^(2n)*y^4+4y^(2n)*y^3-3y^(2n))

    2) 4*2y^(2n)(y^4+y^3-3)

    3) 8y^(2n)(y^4+y^3-3)

    hope this helps


  2. First of all, the expression must equal something.  Second of all, there are two variables.  You need a second equation in order to solve for y and n.  You can't solve one equation for two unknowns.
