Anyone know how to test for gold chloride (gold salts)?

  1. Gold chlorie as suggested above probably doesn't exist at normal conditions. BUT if it did adding another salt would no do anything. you may get a precipitate like AgCl as above but then you would have AuNO3. you need to use a metal to replace the gold ions in solution. for example put a 20c peice in the solution and you will plate gold onto it provided there is gold in the solution.

    this is a REDOX equation and swapping salts will not show you anything


  2. if there truly were such a thing, it could easily react with silver salts, for example, considering how unreactive gold is

    you just need to add silver nitrate, or any other salt you can basically think of!
