Question:

Anyone know more about this injection for temporarily solving exotropic eye?

I went to the doctors and they did lots of eye tests to measure how far apart the eyes were. They did tests with prisms to see if I'd be able to see normally after surgery on the eye and it was inconclusive as at times I could see fine doing certain tasks and others I saw in double. So they said rather than go straight ahead with the surgery which most patients that have double vision lose it after a week but not all, it might be wise to have a temporary injection into the muscle to paralyse it so the eye returns and follows the other eye for about a week or two and they can then see if I will get double vision or not before having the operation.

Is this wise to do or has it got side effects, possible complications? Is it painful with just being under local anaesthetic?

Any help will be greatly appreciated :)

  1. It's not that painful and I suggest you should go ahead with the surgery. If you delay it extensively, you might develop amblyopia. Then you'll have another problem on your hands. It might be painful for couple weeks but you'll have to ride out that storm with pain medication. I believe it's worth going through the trouble for a month than having exotropia for rest of your life. Good luck and hope you get better.
