Question:

Anyone know of a Long Beach, CA shuttle from downtown to San Diego Zoo?

So I would rent a car but I have already paid for a shuttle from the airport to hotel and back to the airport. And the only day I have available for the zoo would be Sunday August 31st and then my cruise is on Monday which leaves little time to get and return a car. So i was hoping someone knows of shuttle services or car service that is fairly cheap?

Thanks for the info!

  1. Take Amtrak or suck it up and rent a car.

San Diego has much better public transportation than Long Beach or any place in the LA/OC area.

Truthfully though you will not have much time to enjoy the SD zoo if you take public transportation.  You will make a zillion stops and on the weekends the trains don't run late.

Since you don't have much time, go to Disneyland in Anaheim or stay in Long beach and visit the Queen Mary, Scorpion submarine and go out on Pine Ave.

  2. There is no shuttle from Long Beach to San Diego. It's a pretty far distance, on the order of 90-100 miles depending on your starting point. If there were a shuttle, for that distance you'd be looking at $120+ round trip.

It -is- possible to get there using a variety of public transportation (Metro line from Long Beach to one of the transportation hubs, then an Amtrak train, then a San Diego train) but the time doesn't warrant the hassle. You'll be happier renting a car, search around, you should be able to get one for $40 or less for the day, plus you will get to stop and enjoy our lovely coastal scenery along the way.

  3. Yo might want to check Metrolink..........
