I like Dawat and Tamarind.  Dawat is a bit more traditional on food (with a few twists on flavor), while Tamarind is more fusion.  Dawat has a classy dining room and Tamarind is more trendy.

6th street near St. Marks..."Indian Row" - there are tons of good Indian restaurants there but one that I treally like is called Taj Mahal.

If you want an expensive one - it's called Nirvana.  It overlooks Central park and is VERY expensive.  The food is good but the view is OUTSTANDING!!!
