I love the thin brown sauce, but I dont cook that much to make it myself. If someone knows of a canned alternative I'd appreciate it.

  1. All are correct I am a former chef and you can use a can of plain beef broth, bouillon or consumme, just add it and 1/2 can of water to the roast pan simmer to heat and then serve over the meat, if there is an excess amount of fat from the meat, just drain it off, you also can replace the water with red wine for a nicer taste just make sure it boils for 1-2 minutes to burn off some of the winey taste, not need for salt it is in the beef products.

  2. McCormick makes a packet - u just add water . its good

  3. You can buy it packaged where the packaged spice and gravy mixes are or make your own with a good jar of bullion stock it's sometimes called beef base.  It costs about $3 and lasts a long time.

  4. really, au jus is basically beef broth.  you can use canned broth, and heat it in a saucepan with 2-3 teaspoons of cornstarch to thicken it up.  bring it to a boil, then reduce heat to low and continue heating for 1-2 minutes.
