  1. Contact Philip at http://www.overseasemployment.ca He has a Cruise Ship training package and job referrals as he was a Cruise Ship Director for several years and lives in Vancouver.

Also, getting paid to travel may be something you never considered, instead of being stuck on one ship as an employee, you can have fun on Cruises as a patron for free and earn income at the same time:

  2. Acorn is right, Casinos are a good department, but depending on your destination tips can be poor or ilegal (UK Casinos do not allow tipping).

Casino dealers, Gift Shop attendants, Spa personnel, Photographers are all STAFF, rather than crew.

They get better cabins, better status onboard, access to pax areas, etc.

I did ships 10 years, most in the shops, salaries are ok and working hours are not bad at all since you can´t open the shops while in port.

Seadays you work 12 hours or so, but all ports you can go out etc.

2 major companies run the shops on 80% or 90% of the ships

    they are:

    www.hardingbros.co.uk

(uk based, has some 40 ships, better work environement, better salary)

    or

    http://www.starboardcruise.com/

    US based,

I didnt like the work place, too much competition.

But they are bigger, some 80 ships.

At Hardings you make comission if the whole team makes a certain target, at starboard there are individual targets, makes the workplace heavier in my opinion.

Hardings hires with phone enterviews, send your resume trhu the site, they set up a time/date for you to call, thats it.

You´ll need a STCW-95 (basic sea survival, 3 day course)

If you need more help, feel free to ask.

  3. A good way of getting work on a cruise ship is to find work in a casino as a croupier/dealer, become profficient at it, and after enough experience go to the cruise lines with a talent that they require. There may even be people in the casino industry that could put in a good word for you. And you can make a pretty decent amount of money from tips when you get there.
