I was wondering whether anyone knew of any particular story done where you draw and tell a story at the same time for children? If anyone has any links, or have any they done that would be great.

  1. Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves

  2. These are called tell and draw stories and there are books you can get from Amazon or Barnes and Noble.  I am sorry I do not have one I can type out here and there do not seem to be links for them as the stories are copyrighted.  They are a great tool though with preschoolers.  Hope you can find a book near you.

    Good Luck

  3. I love the Candy Man draw and tell.

Once upon a time a little old lady was sitting in her house when a knock came at the door (here the children knock)

The old lady says (children say 'who's there')

It's a pair of boots, you draw the boots on the board.

The next day there was a knock on the door (children knock on their desks or something) and the old lady says (children say 'who's there').

It's a pair of long long legs, and you draw the long legs from the boots .....goes on, a coat....long arms....a neck....a hat...then it's the candy man!

You can change candy man to Father Christmas for Christmas (starting with the boots), or a character the children love....it's fun, try it.

  5. Are you familiar with Handwriting Without Tears song called Mat Man?  It's a great activity for teaching body parts and basic handwriting skills.  We start with pre-cut shapes to make the parts of Mat Man's body, then after a few days of that, the teacher will draw the parts, and after the song she will ask the children what else Mat Man needs.  He usually ends up with a mustache or beard, crazy hair, maybe a hat or purse, etc. and the kids are rolling on the floor laughing.  The next step would be to give the kids paper and a crayon and let them draw Mat Man while the song is on.  It's a fun, constructive activity, and the song is catchy and cute and the kids enjoy singing it too.

Mat Man has one head, one head, one head,
