Of course, I have seen "The Hustler" and "Color of Money"....both good flicks. The first one is one of my all-time faves. I don't necessarily need a POPULAR movie, just one that epitomizes the game as it really can be and gets the old cue out of the closet! Oldies and indies are fine as long as I can get them on Amazon or somewhere. I would also be interested in educational videos that are highly helpful. I once saw a tape of Mike Sigel playing "150 and out" in straight pool. Wow. 10 consecutive racks of balls without a miss. Unbelievable.

  1. pool hall junkies

  2. I think Jackie Gleason played Minnesota Fats in a movie.  Yeah, I guess it was The Hustler.

  3. Before I start listing off movies, let me recommend that you read the Walter Tevis novels of "The Huster" and "The Color of Money" if you haven't already.  "Poolhall Junkies" was mentioned previously and it's one of my favorites.  "Shooting Gallery" is a recent film with Eddie Prinze Jr. and Ving Rhames.  "Stickmen" is an interesting film out of New Zealand, but you can find it everywhere.  Going back a little, "The Baltimore Bullet" with James Coburn is an enjoyable movie.  The cameos from legendary players make it worth a watch, too many to list.  I have that Mike Sigel tape that you mentioned, however if were talking about the same tape, Mike only ran about 105, and the camera cut away in between every rack.  That's not to say he can't run that many, I know he's done over 400, but I highly doubt that he did so on that particular tape.  The one I have is entitled, "Mike Sigel's Run-out Series".  If you want to see a great match on DVD or video, you need to check out the Irving Crane Vs. Joe Balsis 1966 BCA U.S. Open 14.1 Championship Match.  It's usually billed under the title, "Clash of the Titans".  This is the match where Crane runs 150 balls.  It's an incredible thing to behold.  Happy Viewing.  M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.
