  1. its called shipwreck. good for team building. you have everyone "swimming" (jogging around) mingling. no staying in groups. then you can call out different things such as,

-jellyfish [1person](hit the floor and flail arms and legs) last out has to go to ohter side of net and do crunches

-man overboard![2people](jump on someones back and put hand on forehead "lookout")

-lighthouse [2](arms above head pointed and together other person circles them going "ding, ding, ding...)

-starfish[3](lay on stomach legs flailing hands in a star)

-octopus[4](sit on ground back to back arms and legs flailing)

-rowboat[pick a number](sit on ground in line singing 'row, row, row your boat')

last person/people out each time has to go to other side of night and do crunches or jog around gym or something.

also, its a game called "touch it", what you do is...

-have a person go and sit on other side of court (person A)

    - rest of team serves

    - if person A touches served ball, then server goes over on other side. can sit anywhere.

    - same goes for all, first team w/ all team members on opposite court wins.

  2. I have used a serving game that I call Monopoly serving.

Get some Monopoly money.  Or you can make your own.  (I made my own in $20 denominations.)  Have a banker with all of the money.

I used some rope to mark the court into 6 sections.  You can make the areas as you want them.  When I have younger groups, I divided the court at about the 15 foot mark from the center line (or 4.5 meters for club) and the other markers were 10 feet apart (or 3 meters.)  That made 6 even sections.  When I had older servers, I used the 10 foot line (or 3 meter line.)  And I made areas 1, 2, 4 and 5 narrower and areas 3 and 6 wider.

Divide your group into 2 or 3 groups depending on the size of your group.  (For example, a group of 12 could be split into 6.)

Have all of the first group on one end line with a volleyball bucket.    One will be the judge.  One will be the banker with all of the money.  The other players will shag.  Players will serve one at a time.  You will assign dollar values to areas of the court.  I start each player with $200 dollars.  If they serve out, it costs them $20.  If they serve in the net, it costs them $40.  If they are out of money, they are out of the game.    I usually assigned area 1 and 5 the value of $40.  I assigned area 6 the value of $20.  I assigned area 3 the value of $60 and areas 2 and 4 the value of $80.

Each player must keep their own money.  You can do this drill as long as you want.  I have usually used 5 minutes for each group.  You can add conditioning if you want.  You can put the banker at the far end of the court or at mid court.  After each serve, the server must go to the banker and collect their money.  (You should see them sprint so they can get back in the end of the line.)

See how much money each player has at the end of the time.  The winner gets some reward.  I usually let the winner get a drink ahead of the rest of the group.  Or I keep track of all the winners for the day and they go home after the last drill.  Everyone else takes down the net.

  3. try hitting the ball over the net with your hands.

  4. Here's a good defensive drill that I like...

One person stands on one side of the court, and everyone else serves a ball (one at a time). The person receiving the serves has to try to have the volleyballs go between his/her legs without touching them at all. Obviously it's easier if you spread your legs. You get 1 point for each time you do it. The most points wins.

  5. lol, what do you mean? its volley ball, let them all play!

    no drilling required! :)

  6. queens court

    scrimage

individual drills pass to yourself twice set twice then pass with 1 arm and a time

dead fish serving gameeveryone has a bal and if you miss your serve then you have to lay down and the other people on your team have to serve so the ball lands on you

or don't lay you can sit but you have to catch the ball insted.

  7. Around the world: One person sits in the first position (serving position) and a line of people from the other side must serve to that spot. If they miss they go to the end of the line and wait to serve again. Once the ball lands directly in the hands (or maybe a little reaching :P) of your target, the person who served there goes and sits in the second position and the process keeps going until all six positions are served. This helps with aiming the serve.

Dead fish: All the players except one go on the other side of the net and one stays on the other side. They all lay down in a clump, not touching but as if you shook them like dice and they all landed fairly close but where there are spaces between them for the ball. The person gets 3 minutes or however many minutes you'd like and depending on how many people there are. Time starts and they serve until they hit someone. It's harder than it looks if they are spread out right. Once you hit someone, that person that gets hit runs over and aids the server. Both are serving, trying to collect more people and the more people you have serving, the easier it becomes to hit people but then there are less to hit and more space. This aids in aiming and getting short and long serves down.

Queen of the court: 3 players go on one side of the net and everyone else goes to the other side. 3 step on on the side with all the players and everyone else lines up in three lines in the 3 back positions. Someone throws the ball in or you have one side serve it and once there is a mistake from one side, a new set come son. If the side that had the 3 girls (the winnign side) already there make an error, they are off and must wait in line. The three girls that stepped on are now the queens and go under the net and set up o nthe other side. A new set of girls step on and see if they can take reign from the other side and the other side tries to defend their crown by not making errors.

Crazy Two's: A coach stand at the net and two players step on. They can split the court any way they'd like. The coach will say go and toss a ball. It might be a tip, a very long throw to make them hustle, a downball like a spike to make them dig it, etc. depending on how experienced these girls or boys are. The trick is, both players must tough the ball. So if one ball goes way out of the court, one has to hustle to get it and pass it correctly while the other follows so they can get a touch on it too. It gets difficult because if the passes from one player aren't good the other has to work extra hard just to get a touch on it. You can time this and let them play even if they both don't touch or stop it once they fail to have a touch from each player and a new set of two steps on the court. It's tough because when the coahc throws the balls, they don't wait for the players to get reset. As soon as the second player gets a touch, another ball is already in the air ready ofr play. This works on passing skills, creating a pressured environment as if it were a game and they must get their passes correct or else work their teammates to death trying to fix the mistake. It also works on communication and teamwork, to back each other up and lastly it is very energetic and has a lot of running involved so it conditons players.

    Have fun :]

  8. heres a drill that i like. it helps with getting up off the floor when you dive. everyone starts on the floor on their stomach, the coach will hit the ball up high, and the person it is coming at has to get up and pass the ball back before it hits the ground.

another is queen of the court. split up the group into teams of three. pick one team to start in the head position (one side of the court) the other teams are in line on the other side of the court waiting to go up against the head team (the team in the head positon)one team at a time will go up against the head team. the head team serves the ball and the 2 teams hit the ball back and forth until someone misses. if the head team misses the ball, they will go to the back of the line, and the team they played will be the new head team. if the head team wins, the team they played will go to the back of the line.

there is also a game called spider which helps with serving aim. one person (usually the coach) will lay down on their stomach on one side of the court. everyone else is in a line on the other side. each person will take their turn trying to serve the ball at the person on the other side. if someone hits the person on the other side on any part of their body, they join them on the other side and now their team mates will have to try to hit either one. the game continues until everyone has joined the other side

another option is to divide the team into two groups and let them scrimmage

  9. well at camp we all stood on both sides of the net inside the 10 foot line, it doesnt matter how many girls there are and you pass set it, and you cant hit it out of the 10 foot line, usually you have to run the length of the court if you touch it buti doubt you would want to do that, best of luck

    also a serving drill,

you have two teams on each side of the net, and you serve and if you miss you go on the other side, and you lay down and your team must hit you with a serve, if they hit you then you go back, its actually really fun
