  1. the Carnival Conquest, RC Voyager of the Seas and the Carnival Ecstasy-the most reasonable is the Ecstasy being that it is a 5 day. I have been on it, and for being an older ship it is kept up pretty well. The Conquest is a better bet doing the 7 day Western Carribean- been on it too, and it is an AWESOME ship--waterslide, bars, lounges, a great itenerary and good prices if you are planning on going Jan/Feb. RC is going to be the most expensive being that this is the first year Galveston has had a Vayager class ship in its port so everyone wants a piece.  Aruba isnt going to happen unless you go out of San Juan or Ft. Luaderdale. How do I know? I sell cruises for a living! Do some research www.cruisecritic.com. www.cruises.com www.cruisemates.com

    GOOD LUCK!

  2. Try www.wiitravel.com or www.findvacationsonline.com for great cruise rates. You will get rates from all the cruise lines that service the galveston area to compare.

  3. do a search on any cruise site

galveston has 2 or 3 ships docked there, so you'll

    get deal

    go to cruise value center

  4. Try cruisecritic.com for the answer.  What do you consider "reasonable"?

  5. Try vacationstogo.com.  Put in "Galveston" or "Houston" as your departure port and see what's available.  There aren't a lot of ships sailing out of Galveston, compared to Florida, say, so your options will be somewhat limited, depending on the season.

  6. Basically you have your choice of three ships.

    1)  Voyager of the Seas.  Currently it sails seasonally (winter) from Galveston to Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Cozumel or Cozumel, Roatan & Progreso on alternating Sundays.

    2)  Carnival Conquest.  Currently it sails year round to Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Cozumel on Sundays.

    3)  Carnival Ecstasy.  Currently it does three cruises (two five night cruises and one four night cruise) year round ...

Five nights leaving every other Monday to Progreso and Cozumel.

Five nights leaving every other Saturday to Cozumel and Progreso.

Four nights leaving every other Thursday to Cozumel.

  7. The Port of Galveston has 2 Carnival ships and 1 Royal Caribbean ship.

Carnival has the Ecstasy.  She is a smaller 70 ton ship that offers 4- and 5-day trips with stops in Cozumel and Progresso.  Progesso is a developing port so fewer things to do.  However, you can get killer deals on trinkets in the outdoor market.  Cozumel is on the other end of the spectrum and has about 50 different shore excursions available.  We took 20 members of our family on the Ecstasy in 2006 and everyone had a blast.

Carnival's second ship in the Galveston market is the Conquest.  She is newer than the Ecstasy and larger at 110-tons.  You feel less motion on the larger ships.  The Conquest stops in Cozumel, Grand Caymans and Jamacia.  She is a very nice ship but the itinerary is tough.  Out to sea day 1 and 2, ports days 3-4-5.  We took 14 guests on the Conquest in 2007 and are taking 7 guests in 2008.

Royal Caribean recently moved the Rhaposody of the Sea out of the Galveston market and replaced it with the Voyager of the Seas.  It was long overdue. The Rhaposody was in terrible shape.  We sailed her in 2005 and that trip is the reason I will never sail RC again.

The City of Galveston has done many improvements to the cruise terminal.  The parking is $70 for the week and embarkation usually moves along at a good pace.

Check out www.vacationstogo.com to compare cruise prices.

Alert:  the prices you see on the web on any of the sites are teaser rates for the smallest interior cabin and the fees don't include the port fees, taxes or the new fuel surcharge.  Be sure to have the booking agent include these fees in any quote they give you  up front because these fees can add between $100-200 per person to the fare.

Also, be aware of the changing passport requirements.  Cruise travel in 2008 will require a passport.  Keep up to date with the specific implementation schedule at http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbp...
