Question:

Anyone know of places to volunteer in healthcare?

I live in Cary NC, (close to Raleigh/Durham) and have called several adult day care centers and homes for old folks, and none need any volunteers...

Only other thing I can find via google is Jaycees, but they aren't really healthcare related and require an annual $70 fee.

I have no experience in healthcare, yet I have worked at an adult day care center for about 3 or 4 days (community service)

  1. Look here:

    VolunteerMatch, http://www.volunteermatch.org

    Idealist, http://www.idealist.org

    Change.org, http://www.change.org

    CraigsList, http://www.craigslist.com

    Network for Good, http://www.networkforgood.org

    http://www.1-800-volunteer.org/

    ServeNet, http://servenet.org/

Also, contact your local volunteer center; you can find this via the Points of Light Foundation web site,

    http://www.pointsoflight.org/centers/

Also contact hospitals, free clinics, Planned Parenthood, and hospice organizations.

  2. Have you tried your area hospitals?   How about Hospice?   Check with the Senior Center in your area (find it in the phone book) and ask how to contact the Area Agency for Aging which may well have volunteer optys related to health care or health. Closely related would be going to www.secondharvest.com finding the info on the foodbank nearest you and then asking them which ministries orm food pantries take food out to elderly and disabled ppl at their homes. Many such agencies need volunteers and many of these volunteers help with health issues as well as food.
