  1. Central and South America simply does not have a developed international rail network.  International train services are almost non-existent, and most journeys must generally be made by long-distance bus or plane.

TACA International Airlines offers routes from Guatemala City or Flores to Belize City.  Prices are steep and vary depending on the day of travel.  Prices range from $270-$500 roundtrip per person.

Your best bet is to travel by bus if you are on a budget.  There is not a lot of information on the web about these buses, so you will definately have do some digging around.  Your best bet is to try and find a phone number for this business and give them a call.  Try searching for National Transportation Service, formerly Novelos.

  2. Depends where you are going.. If you are just trying to go to Peten (tikal and such), then bus is your best bet.  If you are trying to go to Guatemala city, then a Bus will take you quite a while.  Though Taca is the prime choice for airlines, there are some smaller ones down there like TikalJets.

  3. Taca do not offer direct flights to Belize city as far as I'm aware - with taca you must change planes in San Salvador.  You've three basic options:

    1. Tropic air or Maya Air flights from Flores to belize city.

    2. Bus from Flores to San Ignacio (Cayo) in western Belize.

    3. Boat from Puero Barrios to Punta Gorda in southern belize.

  4. Well, you can definitely take the 2nd class bus to Flores, or if you are going to Tikal there is a crossroads where you can get off and wait for a van to pass.  There may also be 1st-class but I don't know, I do recall one from Cancun to Tikal. From Flores its like 4-5 hours to Rio Dulce and 9-10 hours to Guatemala City, with everything from chicken buses to "deluxe" buses.

  5. The easiest way is by bus from Flores, in the peten region of northern Guatemala. For the more adventurous, you can cross by boat from Livingston to Stann Creek. You have to find the police chief on arrival, since there will be no immigration on the Belize side.
