Question:

Anyone know the details for installation of DirecTV?

I am moving into a new house and while the cable is run throughout the inside of the house, it is not connected outside. In order to get Comcast Digital Cable, they are going to need to come out and charge me a lot to dig to connect the cable first. And Verizon FiOS is not offered in my area. I was considering going with DIRECTV instead...do they use a dish instead of connecting to the cable? Or does the cable still need to be connected to install DIRECTV? I'm trying to determine what is the most cost effective solution...any ideas?

  1. Direct TV will drill into your roof to place their dish.  They will then run the coax from the dish to the side of your home where your other utilities are.  From there, the will have to drill a hole into your home to bring the coax inside.  They can then connect it to the existing coax thru-out your home.  You will need a stb (set top box) for each TV you want to hook up.  If you want to use tivo, you will also need a phone line near the stb to order.

What ever company you decide to go with, they will have to drill a hole into your home to place the coax, unless there is a coax line somewhere on the side of your home where the other utilities are.

  2. DirecTV and Dish Network use a small dish that is mounted on your roof.  A cable is run from the dish to a satellite receiver that is usually placed near your TV.  That's pretty much all there is to it.

    I hope this helps.
