Anyone know the name of a tree that grows tall and skinny and isn't pine?

  2. Lombardy Poplar. Short lived. Shallow rooted leading to possible uprooting during high winds and very susceptible to many diseases. Considered by many to be a "junk" tree.

  9. A Lombardy poplar comes to mind.  But they are short-lived trees that become particularly unattractive after about 20 years.  If that is the tree you had in mind, ask a local nurseryman what a good substitute would be for your space that is going to last at least 100 years.
