  3. This one I know! It's from Avoyelles parish in Lousiana and the originator of the family was Benjamin P. de Lavallade. He was born in Chateau Neuf, Charentes, Cognac. He emigrated to Avoyelles before the Civil War and settled in Avoyelles parish. Local legend is that he was killed in his store which faced the Courthouse Sqaure in Marksville. The local historical society can tell you more about him.

    The rest of his family was here from France right before the Civil War. His brother fought in the Civil War.

  4. Creole/French. There's a lot people with that surname in Louisiana. It looks to be of that origin.
