Anyone know what is the best resource for teaching typing to a child (9 years old)?

My son is high functioning autistic. He has handwriting problems, hands tire easily, writing is sloppy and rushed, he is in 3rd grade and will need to be able to handle longer writing assignments by fourth grade. We have started working with him on typing but is a slow go. Any suggestions?

There is a $9.99 value software that you can get at Best Buy. It is a Spongebob Squarepants software, which might be entertaining for someone his age.

the way i learned to type was my dad gave me a cd that was like typing school but it was interactive and more like a game. it helped a lot. and you can start at lower levels so your son can work his way up.

A Mavis Beacon cd would be good.

It has fun, interactinve games that teach you to type wihch are great for a child.

you can get a cd at any store that sells computer electronics for about 10$

i learned when i was about 8ish.  my mom is a teacher and i had to sit in her classroom after school for 2 hours until she got to get off of work.  there was a typing game on her computer.  i have no idea what it was called, but i can type 90 wpm now.  it was an excellent building block for me, and ive really grown with it over the years.  im sorry that i dont know the name, but i bet you could find a similar program for extremely cheap at one of those learning center/tutoring help places.  or even barnes n noble

Try the Mavis Beacon typing program,

its kind of fun but it teaches you at the same time.
