Monica and Mich Gorden both want to buy a scooter. Monica has already saved $25 and plans to save 5$ per week until she can buy the scooter,Mich has $16 and plans to save $8 per week.

In how many weeks will Monica and Mic have saved the same amount of money?

How much will each person have saved at that time?

  1. its when u create 2 linear equations and find the solution point by equating them  ( making them equal to each other)

  2. 25 / 5= 5 for monica

    so

    16 / 8 = 2 for mich

thats mean monica have saved the same amount of the money would be 5 weeks and mich would saved the same amount of money would be 2 weeks.

    $25*5= $125 for monica

    so

    $16*8=  $128 for mich lo =]

  3. It's an algebra problem if you make equations out of both their savings.

its one way to look at it...

  4. it looks like your basic word problem you got in elementary school math class, just longer.

  5. There are a couple of ways you can label a problem like this.  As was indicated earlier, these are linear equations.  When you're looking for the solution to both of them at the same time, it's referred to as solving them simultaneously.  You could also view this as looking for the intersection of two lines.  You could also set it up in such a way that you're looking for the roots of an equation.
