i've searched on a few spider sites and cannot find this specific one... I live in NC, and here's a pic of the spider [it was about 3 inches wide!]

  1. The closest I.D. that i came upon is a Funnel Web spider, Agelenopsis sp., native to N.C.  Your picture appears to be one that is getting ready to molt.(shed its' skin) Hence the pinkish legs and hairs visible underneath the exoskeleton. (On legs and abdomen)

Spiders are tremendously under appreciated. They are a beneficial predator to have around. :)

    Good luck and great pic!

BTW, it's def. not an Argiope species. They are much larger and have very distinct colorations. AKA Golden garden spiders. Check 2nd link for comparison.

  2. ah i hate spiders

    Yellow-and-black Garden Spider (Argiope aurantia)?

course it's more red than a yellow..but thats the only kind that looked somewhat close
