  1. I know of the word BEN from 2 origins.

The first is ancient Rome, as from the movie BEN HUR.

The second is modern day hebrew. BEN means "the son of".

  2. Ben comes from Benjamin, which comes from the Hebrew Binyamin, who was according to the Bible one of Jacob's sons. Benjamin means "son of my right [hand] side" and Ben by itself means "son of". Ben can also be a shortened form of Benedict, which comes from the Latin words "Bene" (well) and "dicere" (speak).
