Anyone know what the bi-directional arrow traffic sign mean and does?

I saw this sign one day and i have no idea wat its purpose is and wat it means. can someone help me and tell me the meaning of the bidirectional arrow sign before i get into future accidents?

It means you should go both ways, but if you can't pick one.

If you see this sign, do not continue forward!

Means you've reached a point where you can't keep on going in the direction you were headed, and have to make a decision about which way to turn.

Literally, not metaphorically.

We have several of those where I live and what it means here is that the road ends and you can either go left or right.........

They are used where a road ends at a perpendicular angle to another road and all traffic has to either go left or right.
