So my grandpa has this redness going on in his feet, and they get swollen, and there isn't anything that he can do to stop the pain except drowsy pain killers which aren't good for him...so if you think that you know what this is, or have any infor for me at all, like how to make the pain go away, or reduce the swelling, that would be great, thanks...:) (by the way he tried a bunch of stuff already, and the doctors can't help him)

  1. is he diabetic?  does he get any exercise at all?  does he have circulation problems?  does he drink?  does he have gout?  sounds like he has serious circulation problems, possibly related to diabetes or perhaps just old age/stiff veins.  I mean seriously, there are treatments and the doctors have probably told him to stop eating red meat, stop drinking, walk a lot and cut out the salt, but he may not want to change his ways.  There isn't a little pink pill for everything in life and we sometimes have to clean up our acts.

  2. I know I am suppose to answer questions not ask, but, I am curious if your grandfather has had his kidneys checked.  Swelling of the feet is one sign of kidney problems.  Another problem could be gout. Gout is associated with uric acid that does not pass through the kidneys, causing red swelling in the joints of the feet (or just one foot).  If the redness is associated with hot, feverish feeling in the joints, he needs to have his uric acid levels checked.  Gout is very painful, there are medications that can help with the swelling, redness, and pain.  I suggest you go back to the hospital or doctor and request they check his urine for high levels of acid.

  3. My mother - in - law gets the same thing. She is on e few medications and found out that some affect the others which also contributed to the redness and swelling. At one point she couldn't even walk and was in so much pain. The Dr's might need to check his medications. If they say there is nothing they can do then they are just being lazy. Always seek a second opinion if a Dr tells you something unhelpful. Also he should be checked for heart, liver, kidney and lung problems. If he can he should try to keep active and drink plenty of fluids. But also he could be retaining to much fluid which could be causing this. Good luck in finding the cause. :)
