Question:

Anyone know what years the ATSF ran their "Russian" decapods?

PRR had many of them, in addition to 122 of 2-10-0's they built themselves, serving in drag service in the Alleghanies, but the Santa Fe ran some in freight service as well, where they were well suited to helper dervice.

Information in general is easily found, but I'm looking for the specifics of their use on the Santa Fe, including dates and locations where possible.

Thanks for the help.

  1. 987 (Baldwin) was built in 1902 and ran until 1933

    988 and 989 (ALCo) ran from 1902 until 1938.

These were built as 4-cylinder compound type, but simpled in 1911.

2554-2556 (Baldwin) were built in 1918 and ran until1934.

2565-2569 ( Baldwin) were built in 1925 and ran until 1938.

    These were ex-KCM&O.

  2. Some corrections:

PRR did not have "Russian" Decapods, but they did have many Decapods.

AT&SF did not recieve any "Russian" Decapods directly, they did get some in 1928 when they took over the KC,M&O which were retired very quickly.  2554-2556 were the only "Russian" Decapods on the system.

The above link provides the most detailed information, start at the bottom, and scroll upwards.

EDIT: regarding the link brian_rmsy provided, for 2-10-0 on page 6 it lists road numbers 2565 to 2569; these were NOT "Russian" Decapods.  They were much larger 115 tons vs 101 tons, with 57" drivers versus 52" drivers.  They were built by Baldwin, and delivered in 1925 to the KC,M&O.
