Why not drive a virtual one. Get Microsoft Train Simulator then head to www.uktrainsim.com.

For a full sized one, try the disposals list @ EWS......... but don't expect much change out of £20,000 - £40,000

For a model one, I recommend http://www.hattons.co.uk/

But then there's also Microsoft Train Simulator.......... which is a lot less messy to use than a real one (I know....... I once did work experience in the motive power depot @ Grosmont on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway) or setting up a layout for a model one.. and takes up alot less space.

Another cheaper way is to join a Railway preservation group, such as the Deltic Preservation Society (DPS), owners of 3x working ex. British Rail Class55 "Deltic" diesel locomotives.... each of which have 2 huge diesel motors, pumping out so much power between them (3300BHP) you can feel them making your rib cage vibrate when stood next to 'em http://www.thedps.co.uk/

If you are going to buy  REAL" train that would be crazy!!!  but if you want a toy train you could go to eBay or to THOMAS AND FRIENDS.

If you are looking for a full size one, try the EWS disposals list. They vary in livery, but EWS's house colours are red.

If you want a model one, then try either Hornby or Bachmann, who have various models.
