Hey all, just wanted to know if anyone out there knew where I could get a "cheap" engagement ring for my girl? Nothing over $500 bucks just cause my funds are tight but I want it to look nice. No yellow gold, possibly platinum, definitely white gold... any advice at all. THANK YOU!

  1. Platinum is more expensive than gold by a substantial margin.  If for some reason you don't like yellow gold, go with white gold.  The 18K white gold alloys are very strong and durable, but still hold value.  The diamond will be the major factor, it will probably cost more than the gold in the ring.

    Good luck, young man.

  2. try zales outlet stores. They have much better prices because the diamonds have more imperfections, not than anyone without a magnifying glass would ever know. Then maybe for a wedding anniversary later in your marriage you can replace the stone with a nicer one. %00 can actually get you a pretty nice ring. You could also try ebay or a pawn shop, but they are always less trustworthy and have slim pickings.

    Good Luck!

  3. there are some really pretty ones on Zales.com

    :)

you just have to kinda look around cus theres also some REALLY horrible ones ahah :)

  4. Believe it or not Wal-Mart has very pretty rings for a good price.

  5. You should check out your local antique shops...you can find nice antique engagement rings there, but sometimes the diamonds arent as brilliant as at the shop...But you can always get it cleaned professionally.

Also, you could ask your mother or grandmother for theirs...There are alot of families that do that sort of thing...just make sure its forever, or that the ring goes back to you in the will.

  6. please don't take this the wrong way, but if you're tight on money and you can't afford to buy your future bride a nice ring, then should you really be getting married?

I only say this because this girl is going to wear this ring for the rest of her life, and while I'm adamantly against spending too much on a ring, I also think that it's should be something that she'll love, and you should put money into it.

Not to mention that weddings are expensive. While you can most certainly have an inexpensive wedding, you should still do it when your cash flow is pretty good. No one should go broke just because they want to get married.

My fiance and I waited to get married until we were financially stable to get married, and it was the best decision we ever made.

Okay, now I'm ready for all the thumbs down I'm going to get for this answer.

  8. You could consider trying craigslist.org.  But it might be tough to know what you're getting.

  9. schi..im not going to give you a thumbs down. but there are PLENTY of nice rings that you can buy for less than $500 so i don't really see your argument.

honey you should look at overstock.com and amazon.com

they have a slew of nice rings in your price range.

and walmart has some good ones.

  11. all under $500

or buy a promise ring now and save for a nicer ring for later!

  12. Well considering platinum is the most expensive metal, i'd stick with a white gold.  Just go to your local mall and check out the sales/clearance items in the different jewelry stores.

  13. ice.com

    pretty pretty stuff.. great prices!

  14. Walmart has some.  The bulk warehouses like BJs, Cosco, Sam's Club.  You could also look online at a site like Buy.com or Bluenile.  But I'd be careful online or in pawn shops since you may get scammed.  Platinum may be near impossible.

One thing to consider is perhaps get a setting that she loves.  Get an alternate stone put in temporarily and then you can replace it in a few years when funds aren't so tight.  Maybe white sapphire or moissanite if she loves the look of diamonds.  Though I have several friends who got a unique stone as the engagement ring--like a topaz or pink sapphire.

You should also consider expo shows.  Many jewelers have special weekends where they bring in hundreds of settings.  If you explain your budget I'm sure they will have something that will meet your requirements.

  15. Go to a local jeweller's who sells estate jewelry. Or, as was mentioned, check out the pawnshops. Although this trend for metals which don't look like gold is fairly recent, so you might need to get something new.

  16. diamondocean.com

  17. Check pawn shops in your area.

  18. You will not get platinum for $500 or less, but white gold maybe.

Don't call it "cheap" it sounds bad, how about inexpensive.

I would check the mall shops or even Walmart.

  19. I found these available on eBay. I don't know how much they'll eventually go for, but it'll probably be less than $500;

These were just random pulls from a "white gold engagement ring, vintage" Search. Feel free to adjust to your liking.

    Good luck, and congratulations!
