I have been trying to find some old horse saddles that are no longer in riding condition. The more beat up the better. I would like to only spend maybe 30 dollars per, but price is negotiable. If anyone knows where I can find some within 4 hours of Omaha, NE, I would greatly appreciate it.

  1. Watch the farm and the sporting goods categories of your local craigslist and you might get lucky. And I think it would also be a good idea to post a want ad in the farm and the sporting goods categories of your local craigslist. I have a friend who has a tack shop at his boarding stables and he is always scouting good buys on used saddles and tack in need of reconditioning and repair and some of what he buys and then reconditions for resale has come from craigslist. One "old saddle" he found listed for sale for only $50 on craigslist, one the seller said belonged to his great-grandfather and then to his father, turned out to be a 1930s or 1940s vintage S. D. Myres western saddle. The seller must have thought it was in hopeless condition and obviously didn't know the value of it. My friend has rehydrated the leather to suppleness, replaced the fleece lining and made some minor repairs to restore it to nearly new condition. And he has had more than just a few offers to buy it, one I know for sure was $1800, but he won't part with it. It fits his favorite horse and it fits him and it is now his parade saddle. It's a real eye-catcher! Watch craigslist and post an ad. You might get lucky.

  2. When I was looking to buy my saddle, I was on ebay and someone put up for auction starting at $0.99 an awful looking old saddle... when I read your question, it was the first thing that I thought of.  I'm sure it was already sold, but there could be more people selling old saddles there.  You could keep your eyes open on the ebay site and you might find what you're looking for.  If they're not near your city, they will mail them to you.

  4. Ebay. I swear buy it and have bought  at least four saddles[nice ones though for myself and resale] from it. Usually shipping prices are reasonable and the transaction is easy if you use PayPal and buy from a reputable seller. Heres a few:
