  1. Your're a student pilot. You cant even walk up and rent an airplane by yourself. Wearing the uniform does no good. Who are you trying to impress? No one, your paying to fly. Until the day you get paid to fly, its useless to wear it. And when someone see's you wearing that uniform, they won't think any different then if your getting out of the plane anyways.

  2. If you're just starting out, ditch the uniform. A tie is the most useless piece of clothing designed. (unless you use it to clean the oil off the dipstick)

You're gonna be sweating, anxious, and very busy in your flight training, so I'd suggest jeans, a Hawaiian shirt and a ballcap. Might as well be comfortable. There will be plenty of time for the uniform later. After a few years and airlines, you'll have so many different uniform bits and pieces from every place where you've worked that you won't know what to do with them.

You can get the shirts and shoulder boards at any pilot supply shop.

  3. Try your local outfitters who cater for aircrew. You may even be able to pick up a ready made uniform. I wish you all the best in your venture.

  4. my husband is a pilot and he gets shirts etc from trans air pilot shop

  5. Please, for Zorbigny's sake don't show up for your first flying lesson in a pilot's uniform.  You're embarrassing me already!

Seriously, if you've never been laughed out of any place in your life, you will be if you do that.  Wait to wear a uniform until you have a job as a pilot.  NOBODY would wear one to take a flying lesson.

    Please don't do that.  Uuugggh!

Just wear ordinary street clothes appropriate for the weather, okay?  That's what your instructor will wear.

If you want to wear a pilot's uniform to a costume party or something like that, you can rent one from any costume shop.  Just look in the Yellow Pages under "costumes."

  6. Hi!

There are a couple of place you can try.

I'm positive you can find some internet stores that sell Pilot gear/accessories.  Also you can try to find a local store.

http://www.mypilotstore.com/MyPilotStore... has some Formal shirts and stuff

http://sportys.com/acb/Category.cfm?&DID... Also has some neat stuff

I hope this helped and good luck with flying =]

  7. I hope this question was a joke.  If not, no offense, but do not show up in a uniform unless your flight school requires it.  And if they do, go somewhere else.  If you're planning on flying in the airlines, then trust me, you'll get plenty of opportunities to wear the monkey suit.  When I was with the airlines, there was nothing I hated wearing more than my pilot's uniform.

There's nothing funnier then seeing 2, twenty-somethings step out of a Cessna 172 with epaulettes on their shoulders.  It's even better if they have the top-gun sunglasses on.

    Just wear whatever is comfortable.

  8. Different Airline Companies will have subtle, yet different uniform policies. Buying a full out uniform at this early stage is pointless.

As someone already pointed out, yes, you will be laughed at since you are not yet flying for pay. You are entering a world of professionals, but until you have your ATPL you are not among their ranks yet!

However, entering a professional environment such as aviation, you should dress neatly. Don't show up in a tee and jeans with flip-flops. I would say at least a collared shirt, some sort of long pants (jeans are okay as long as they look tidy), and shoes (not sandals).

Usually as people approach their Commercial and IFR rides with the intention of flying for a living, dress shirts, dress pants, and ties become a standard (not the white and black official pilot uniform, but again, neat, clean professional attire).

Unless your flight school has a uniform policy, don't worry about it yet. But to answer your question, there are many aviation shops that will sell white shirts, black ties, and black dress pants, depending on where you live. Aviation World in Toronto and Vancouver sell that... but that's only for those two cities...

  9. From a full pilots uniform shop

Make your first lesson navigation that might help

  10. Actually, I wouldn't recommend it... because you are probably going to get investigated. You can't sell pilot uniforms on EBay because Homeland Security doesn't want someone using a pilots uniform in an attempt to gain access to an aircraft of secured area. It has already been tried in the USA and has been done successfully in other countries where security is more lax.
