Question:

Anyone know where to get old bike parts?

I've got an early 70's bridgestone road bike that I want to fix up to use for commuting and rec riding. It has "square taper" crank mounts and the guys at my LBS said they haven't made cranks to fit that size taper since about '78-'79. If I have to I can replace the entire bottom bracket/crank assembly, but I'd rather just get new arms. Anyone got any ideas?

  1. amazon

  2. eBay is your best bet.

Or you could get a whole new chainset/BB combo fairly cheaply nowadays.

If you want to stay true to the Japanese history of the bike, look for Shimano or Sugino - They're the big guys in the field.

  3. If I were you I wouldn't go back to that shop. That is a standard taper crank... they just wanted to sell you a whole new crank.

There are multitudes of square taper cranks around, I think most Bridgestones had SR cranks but the brand doesn't matter.

I have a Shimano Sora triple crank if you want it.. just pay shipping.
