If you've bought a foreclosed home, I'd appreciate some advice on how to go about the process, who to contact etc..

  1. There are a ton of websites that will gladly take your money and only give you part of the information.  You could stay in touch with the county sheriffs office for the sheriff's sales and bid on them at the courthouse, or you could use a Realtor to help you find a home and guide you through the process of buying one.   You won't necessarily save money by bidding on them at sheriff sale. And you could make a huge mistake if the condition isn't up to codes.  Realtors expertise, advise and guidance are all free to the buyer. Why wouldn't you take advantage of that?

  2. A lot of bank websites have their own foreclosures listed (check out the 5th/3rd website) and www.HUD.gov.  They have FHA and VA foreclosures listed there.
