Why is Lithium Aluminum Hydride used together with Diethyl Ether? Let's say.. in a reduction of a nitrile to an amine.

  1. 1. diethyl ether is a polar aprotic solvent which if you remmember from orgo 1 is prefered for SN2 reactions.

    2. Diethyl ether is a common solvent in reduction reactions and LAH has the highest solubility in diethyl ether over other etheral solutions.
