Ok this is weird but I used to be able to go out and drink heaps of alcohol but now my heart races heaps after and the same goes for when I drink coffee/coke and sometimes after I eat chocolate? Could this be a caffeine intolerance problem I have developed? Should I start drinking wine instead of bourban and coke? Would that be a safer option? BTW I am only 20 (i'm from Aus though legal drinking age 18) Thanks in advance!! :) xo

  1. How much coffee/caffeine drinks do you have a day? How about chocolate candy bars? Chocolate also has caffeine in it. I know if I drink too much coffee my heartbeat accelerates. I cut out drinking soda's with caffeine/sugar/salt in them, so the only caffeine I am getting during the day is from my morning coffee. That seemed to stop the problem for me.

  2. These are stimulants and you may have developed a sensitivity to them.  See your doc.

  3. Palpitations are very common as a result of caffeine.  Nothing to worry about unless you also notice feeling faint or numbness or something other that gives you concern then see a doctor.  Palpitations alone are nothing to be concerned about and alomost everyone has felt them at one time or another.

  4. Well another way to stop your heart racing.. Stop thinking about me :P

    Lol

but seriously.. Are you fit? Because that could be the answer if you aren't

  5. It may be several factors.  Some people (mainly Asians) lack certain enzymes that filter alcohol that cause them to have a flushed face, heart racing, get drunk faster - etc etc.

When it comes to the chocolate and sodas it could very well be a caffeine thing - though it doesn't mean it's an intolerance.  Like anything else (including caffeine) you can grow a dependency and a resistance against it.  So, if you drink little of it and all of a sudden try to drink a lot you'll have an "overdose" and your heart races and such.  Caffeine is a natural "upper/accelerant".

    Hope this helped.

  6. No actually I know that caffeine does that, it always raises your heartrate.. which explains the coke, coffee, chocolate.. etc, but I'm not positive about the alcohol, it really wouldn't suprpise me. You might be more susceptible to faster heartrates after drinking or caffeine.. but if you're really worried about it, ask a doctor.. can't go wrong that way!

  7. When you eat less booze and coffee affects your heart more then it usually does. Also, too much sugar and caffeine mixed turns your heart into a raging baboon.
