Anyone know why my TV keeps blacking out?

Hey. My LG Flatscreen tv has been blacking out. It isn't brand new, but we just got it. If I leave it off for a duration of time, it lasts longer while on, but after it goes out, I have to turn it off, then back on, and it gives me less than a minute of perfectly clear picture before it goes out. Anyone know what that could be?

  1. LG Flatscreen...if it's a plasma TV it most likely is the Ysus board....

    If it's an LCD Flatscreen, most likely you're dealing with the balancer circuit on the inverter board...

    If you just "got it" it would be less than a year old and if you copy your purchase reciept, then you can take the TV to any LG/Zenith authorized servicer nearby and get it fixed without any charge to you....as long as it's under the manufacturer's warranty for both parts and labor....

    If it's 40 inches or larger I think they can send a servicer to your home to take care of you...

    I suggest looking at your warranty and see what it says...

  2. I will tend to go with Realist 2006 in that it sounds like a thermal problem.  If you have access to the main board or even care to try this, you can spray Zero Mist* on individual components to see which one is the culprit.  I had a similar problem like yours and it turned out to be a thermal problem with the Conroller Microprocessor I.C.  Just FYI

    * Radio Shack sells this

  3. A number of possibilities here !

    Is it a CRT type ?

    An obvious guess and they are all guesses ! would be a thermal fault , if you got the set sec hand then ( using my crystal ball ) some TV Tech has replaced the line amp transistor or power supply regulator without applying heat sink compound !!!

    Another obvious fault would be a bad soldered joint in the power supply or deflection circuits !.

    I assume you are losing the sound as well !!!

    Any more guesses would be wild speculation !!!

    Cheers Pete

  4. try un plugging it from the electrical outlet.  can't say it will work but i had a similar experience with a different type of television and it worked every time.  there was something i did that caused it but i can't remember what it was. maybe it was the sleep timer. not sure.
