Question:

Anyone know why my caseworker is discouraging me from appealing Medicaid?

I applied for medicaid and was denied. My caseworker ended up asking for my husband's pay in May.Well my husband's coworker had a leave of absence that month and my husband ended up making $925. Typically he only makes about $700. So I call my caseworker to appeal and she basically says that if I appeal "they" will think she did something wrong. So she wants me to bring June's wages from my husband and basically reapply. Does this sound strange? Should I reapply or appeal?

  1. If you were over the financial maximums due to an unusually high paycheck, you will not qualify for medicaid for that month.  If your case has already been closed, you will have to reapply for June eligibility. If your case is still open, you should be able to just bring in June's proof of income without having to reapply. If you think the caseworker is not being honest with you, ask to speak to a supervisor.

  2. If she didn't do anything wrong, you reapply.
