Anyone know why my computer is running so slow?

Question

I am on dial up. I don't have a virus or any spyware. For the past 2 weeks my computer has been running very slowly. I have to click on pages twice to make it go through.

Example

Speed: 49.2 kps

Sent: 446, 610 bytes

Received: 3,714,081 bytes

Do anyone know how i can speed my computer up, or what the problem could be?

You should try upgradeing your ram

it's mainly because you are using dial-up.  Also, make sure your cookies and cache is not being deleted.  By keeping them, your computer remembers the links you went and allows a faster page upload.

Things to consider,

Upgrading your memory

Upgrading your processor

Change to DSL,Cable,FIOS for internet service

If you can, post what your memory is on the computer and what your computer specs are.  The system info.

There're many reasons make your computer slow.

- Maybe RAM's not enough.

- Speed CPU...

- Your HDD's fragmented.

Now, you can try:

- More RAM (if can).

&&& step by step

1.Clear recycled file, compress old file: Start -->Programs --> Accessories --> Disk Clean up --> Choose Drive --> OK, stick what you want to delete & OK.

2. Start --> Run: type "prefetch" (No" ") & Ok, delete all files in this pop up window.

3. Defragment your HDD: Start -->Programs --> Accessories --> System Tools --> Disk defragmenter, choose HDD & push Defragment

If you Internet so slowly:

1. Change to using FireFox.

2. Go to website: http://www.speedtest.net/ for checking your up/download & compare with others.

3. Download CFosspeed v4.x*x from http://9down.com, it'll help you surf faster.
